Don’t Pay will join climate campaigners from all over the UK at a mass demonstration and people’s picket in Westminster later this month, with more than 100,000 people expected to attend.
Extinction Rebellion is facilitating this event to bring activists and supporters from every corner of the UK to Westminster to join our voices together and raise these issues, targeting the decision-makers who are supposed to represent us in Parliament.
We’ll come together to picket the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) on Friday 21 April to demand an end to our reliance on fossil fuels and a swift resolution to the energy crisis blighting our lives.
Our dependence on expensive fossil fuels is fuelling the energy crisis.
Our energy market is designed to extract profit from us at every stage. The production of cheap, homegrown energy has been ignored, while our leaky, inefficient homes haven’t been upgraded and community-run energy projects are consistently overlooked. It’s created a perfect storm – and the only winners are, guess who?
The energy companies making record profits and raking in hundreds of billions a year.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
With experts predicting our bills will remain high for the rest of the decade, it’s clear the only solution to the energy crisis is a fundamental transformation in how we generate and supply energy.
Now is the time to demand and create a sustainable future. One puts our health and wellbeing first, one that doesn’t leave the least-well off with unpayable energy prices and cold homes, and one that doesn’t ignore those in the Global South who are already suffering from our “dash for gas”.
This is why we – and many many others – are joining the Big One and demanding urgent and transformational change.
